Pollack Fishing in Ireland

Description

Pollack are a mainstay of Irish boat fishing, offering explosive sport and excellent table fare. Target these hard fighters from May through August, with June and July proving particularly productive. While Galway Bay, Donegal Bay, and Cork Harbour are premier marks, you will find them throughout our deeper coastal waters. Boat fishing remains the most effective method, usually involving pirks or mackerel baits, though shore anglers often find success with lures. You can expect a typical fish to pull the scales to 9lb (4kg), while specimens can reach an impressive 16lb (7.26kg). For the best chance of success, try fishing over rough ground using orange pirate lures or fresh mackerel fillets to entice a strike.

Three dorsal fins. Dark curved lateral line. Greenish-brown back. No chin barbel. Protruding lower jaw.
